The single highest-value air quality upgrade in most valley homes is boring: a properly sized 4-inch MERV-13 media cabinet in place of the 1-inch filter slot. It captures fine dust and smoke particles a hardware-store filter passes straight through, holds six months to a year between changes, and — because we size it to your blower — does it without strangling airflow. That last clause is the engineering part most installs skip.
Newer Vegas homes are built tight, which is great for cooling bills and bad for air changes. An ERV (energy recovery ventilator) brings in filtered outdoor air while recovering the cooling you've already paid for — fresh air without opening a window to 110°. For smoke season, we configure it to run recirculation with the MERV-13 doing the work.
UV coil lamps have one honest job: keeping the indoor coil free of biological growth so it stays efficient and doesn't smell. We install them for that, and we'll tell you plainly what they don't do, because an informed customer is the point. Every IAQ quote starts with a particle-count reading in your house, and we take another after — numbers, not vibes.

Will a better filter help with wildfire smoke?
Yes — meaningfully. Smoke is fine particulate (PM2.5), exactly what a MERV-13 media filter is good at. During smoke events, run the fan on circulate and a properly installed media cabinet will hold indoor PM2.5 to a fraction of outdoors. We've measured it in customer homes during California fire drift.
Why not just buy a few portable air purifiers?
Portables are fine for a single bedroom. A media cabinet on the air handler filters every cubic foot the system moves — the whole house, silently, for about the cost of two good portables, with a filter change once or twice a year instead of quarterly cartridges.
Are UV lights worth it?
For keeping the evaporator coil clean and efficient in a climate where the AC runs 3,000+ hours a year — yes, that's a real, observable benefit. As a whole-home air 'sterilizer' — no, and we won't sell it as one. Coil hygiene is the honest use case.
